It has always been my policy that disease prevention is superior to treatment. This involves nutritional management, dental exams and necessary correction, parasite control and vaccination. Much of this science changes frequently, so my job is to stay current on all the hard science that directs me in the course of my daily practice. For example, thirty years ago, the recommendation for horses in show barns or other public facilities was dewormer and “flu/rhino” vaccines every 60 days! Now we know this is not good medicine, and many other aspects of equine care have changes just as dramatically.
